Gladys Downey, 93, Ottumwa
OTTUMWA — Gladys C. Downey, 93, of 700 W. Alta Vista, formerly of Packwood, died at 3:25 p.m. May 14, 2007, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born April 10, 1914 in Packwood to Raymond and Carrie Davis Chacey. She married Donald A. Downey Sept. 14, 1935. He preceded her in death April 13, 2002.

A graduate of Martinsburg High School in 1932, she and her husband owned and operated Downey Elevator in Pekin from 1935 to 1958. She and her husband built Prairie Home Restaurant in 1958 and operated it until 1962, and for 17 years they owned and operated Downey Furniture on Highway 78, retiring in 1979. She attended Willard St. United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Darrell Downey of Ottumwa and Dean Downey of Loveland, Colo.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Vivian Brown, Marie Knox, Phyllis Mae Chacey and two infant sisters.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Luers officiating. Burial will be in Packwood Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Willard St. United Methodist Church.
