Harold David Whitney , 71, of 812 W. second died at 1:11 p.m. April 10, 1987 at the St. Joseph Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born July 27, 1915 to Lester and Evalie Whitney. A retired display mand salesman at Sears. He had been a pilot in the United States Air Force Cadets during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion. He married Jean Harper in 1955 in Reno, Nev.

He is survived by four sons, John of Iowa City, James of Des Moines and Michael and Gregory of Ottumwa; three daughters; Marianne and Elizabeth Whitney and Cynthia Whitney Hull of Ottumwa; their mother Jean Fitzgerald; six grandchildren; and a brother Glenn of Sacramento, Calif.

The services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Shrine of Memorials Funeral Home, the Rev. Thomas Mohr officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Family visitation and a Christian Wake will be from 7~8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
