FAIRFIELD — Richard W. Whipple, 84, of Fairfield, formerly of the Batavia area, entered into new life on Jan. 24, 2008, at his home.

He was born on July 30, 1923 in Wapello Co. to Wayne and Addie Rill Whipple. He married E. Maxine Payne on June 8, 1946 in Bladensburg.He was raised and educated in Agency, graduating from Agency High School in 1940. He had farmed his entire life in Wapello and Jefferson counties.

He was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the United States Army. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, Olive Branch Masonic Lodge in Agency and the Batavia Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife; his sons, Steve (Rita) Whipple of Cosby, Mo. and Greg Whipple of Westfield, Ind.; his daughter, Carla (Butch) Bloomquist of Fairfield; five grandsons; and four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Miriam Samuelson of Cedar Rapids and Ruth Leick of Dubuque; his brothers, Carl of Broomfield, Colo., Charles of Timnith, Colo., Paul of Story City and Harold of Lacona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Vicky Manning.

Funeral services will be Monday morning 10:30 at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville with Pastor Michael Renken officiating. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment of the ashes in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by O.B. Nelson American Legion Post #3 and Walter B. Schafer Veterans of Foreign Wars #775 of Ottumwa.Open visitation will begin at noon on Sunday at the Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia with the family present from 5-7 p.m.Memorials may be directed to Faith United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.Obituary may be viewed at: www.legacy.com/ottumwacourier/Obituaries.asp
