OTTUMWA — Raymond M. Stewart Sr., 80, of 1316 E. Mary, died at 12:43 p.m. Dec. 3, 2007, at Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born March 12, 1927 in Seymour to Lavernie and Dorthea Murphy Stewart. He married Mary E. Berkeyheiser May 3, 1947.

A graduate of Numa High School, he was a sergeant in the Army Air Corp during World War II stationed in Ft. Dix, N.J. He worked at John Morrell and Co. until 1973 and also farmed. He then worked at Indian Hills Community College in maintenance before his retirement.

Surviving is his wife; two daughters, Sharon (Steve) Pullen of Eddyville and Mary Jo (Tim) Carnes of Ottumwa; a son, Raymond (Jan) Stewart Jr. of Clive; four grandchildren, Nate (Erin) Stewart, Shannon (Matt) Pertzborn, Terri (Mike) Jennings, Bobbi (Duane) Terrell; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sydney, Lilly, Quinlan, Jillian, Ashley and Addison.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Stewart; and a stepbrother, George VanDeven.Private graveside services will be held at Dale Cemetery near Centerville, with Rev. Harold Schutte officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Am Vets all of Centerville.Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. The family will not be present.Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s or Iowa Hospice.
