OTTUMWA — Maynard D. Johnson, 84, of 421 W. Golf, died at 6 p.m. Nov. 23, 2007, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born May 2, 1923, in Salina, Iowa, to Tilford and Vada Johnson Johnson. He married Alberta Burnett May 4, 1947.
A graduate of Fairfield High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A resident of Ottumwa since 1950, he was a Union Electrician for over 40 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, 50-year member of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 AF and AM, Davenport Consistory, KAABA Shrine, O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.He enjoyed car racing, traveling and spending winters in Arizona.
Surviving is his wife; a son, Steven (Jackie) Johnson of Orion, IL; a daughter, Toni Johnson of Ottumwa; his daughter-in-law, Linda Johnson of Ottumwa; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Johnson; a brother, Rueben Johnson and a sister, Thelma Carlson.
His body has been cremated.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating.Inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery with military services by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.A memorial has been established to the First Lutheran Church
