OTTUMWA CITY.

ALLEN, LEAMAN J:
Born in Bath, Steuben Co., N. Y. on July 31, 1833;
moved to Oakland Co., Mich., with his parents, when ten years of age;
four years after, to Farmington, Van Buren Co., Iowa; remained five years;
thence to Memphis, Mo.;
six years after, came to Fairfield, Jefferson Co.
Enlisted in Co. B, 19th Iowa V. I. (Iowa Volunteer Infantry); served in that company one and a half years;
Re-enlisted in Co. K., 45th Iowa V. I.;
Was promoted to Second Lieutenant in the 100 days service.
Came to Ottumwa fall of 1864;
engaged as foreman of Grimes’ wagon-factory, which place he held for eight years;
carried on wagon manufacturing several years;
the last two years, he has been on the police force.
Married Martha E. Noble December 1856;
she was born in Pennsylvania;
had four children—two died in infancy, two living—Curtis and Everett.
Mrs. Allen is a member of the M. E. church.
