Davis, Meshack

Meshack Davis b. 1811 PA, died Oct. 15, 1896 in Ollie, Keokuk, IA. He is buried in the Halferty Cemetery. On December 18, 1834 he married Susannah (last name unknown). She was born in 1813 and died in 1855. In 1840 they were living in Franklin, Indiana. In 1850 they were living in District 26, Keokuk, IA. Their seven children were: Marilda P. b. 1836, Elizabeth b. 1837, John b. 1839, Emeline B. 1840, Mary b. 1842, Lot b. 1844, and Susana b. 1851. In 1854 he was living in Jackson, Keokuk, IA.

After his first wife's death, some time after the 1860 Census he married Hannah Amburm b. 1825. In 1860 they were living in Richland, Keokuk, IA. They had twin sons, Joseph T. and David Baker b. June 17, 1862 in Keokuk, IA.

In 1870 Meshack was living with his wife and his sons Joseph F. and David B. in Highland Center, Wapello Co., IA. In 1880 he was living in the same location with the same family members.

As of this date we know that his daughter Susana Davis married 1st Keime and 2nd Thomas A. Fitch. She moved with her husband to Dorchester, Saline, Nebraska in 1885. She died Sept. 10, 1914.

His son Joseph F. Davis 1st married Isabel Purdy and had two children, one who died in infancy, the other daughter was Annie Davis Bogard.

His second spouse was Mary Jane Miller b. 1867 and died in 1953. They had two children: John Henry Davis b. Dec. 16, 1891 in Wapello Co., IA and he married Martha Pauline Barger. He died in 1951 in Lucas Co., IA and is buried in the Chariton Cemetery. They had two children: Joseph B. (1930-2002) and Ester A. (1934-); and one daughter, Flossie May Davis West (1893-1920) she married Charles West June 29, 1919. She died April 26, 1920 in Lucas County, IA and is buried in the Chariton Cemetery.

Meshack's other twin son by his second marriage, David Baker Davis married Mary C. Hamilton on Feb. 13, 1884. She was b. Jun. 25, 1869 in Keokuk, IA and died Jan. 8, 1938 in Macon, Macon Co., MO and is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Macon, Macon Co., MO. David died Jan. 16, 1940 and is buried at Woodlawn with his wife.

David and his wife Mary lived in the following places, Keokuk Co., IA, 1880 Highland, Wapello Co., IA; 1895 & 1900 Bingham, Hancock Co., IA; 1910 Warren, Lucas Co., IA; 1920 Eagle, Macon, MO; 1930 Narrows, Macon Co., MO where they owned their own home and farmed.

David B. Davis and Mary C. Hamilton Davis' children were:
Anna Sarah b. 1887 (who married John Roy May on Jan 28, 1905 in Lucas Co., IA; Rhoda May b. 1890; Chester R. b. 1894; Clifford Dewayne b. Feb. 14, 1897 who married Opal; Marie b. 1905; Nadeen b. 1909.

On Oct. 15, 1896 Meshack Davis died in Ollie, Keokuk, IA and is buried in the Halferty Cemetery, located in Olllie, Keokuk, IA, he was 85.
