WARDEN at present and for many years connected to the Ottumwa Courier, American wife of J.B.Belmont of Ottumwa and Elizabeth A. married to John PRESTON and living in Williamsburg, Clermont County Ohio.

The father of our subject was a man of considerable culture and a native of Hanover County Va; but went to Kentucky as a child and was there married to Elizabeth CHUNN, also a native of VA.

Dr. WARDEN was affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church and his wife is also a member.
She died December 23, 1867 and both had enjoyed the love and respect of all who know them.

Dr. WARDEN was educated in the common schools of Kentucky and Ohio. He attended the Ohio School of Medicine at Cincinnati, Ohio. This was in the Winter of 1842-1843. In the Spring of 1843, being broke in health, he determined on a trip West, and came to Ottumwa. Here he found friends, among them Rev. Martin JAMISON, who prevailed him to remain for a time, though he had no intention of making Ottumwa his permanent home. When it was found that he was a physican, he was called upon to frequently subscribe medications.
He abandoned the idea of returning to Indianna and has thus been a permanent resident of the city of Ottumwa and as stated, the first physician to locate on Wapello County.

He engaged in his practice for 13 years, then retired from it.

In 1851 he engaged in the mercantile business, where he retired in 1882. He sold out and has been living a retired life.

Dr. Warden has reached his threescore years, and ten, and can look back upon a well spent life. For 43 years, he has been a citizen of Ottumwa.
