Mrs. Orville Sherman.
Flora Macklin was born near Anson, Mo., May 15, 1872, she being the third child of William F. and Sarah Macklin. Until 19 years of age, she lived with her parents and family at their country home, when the mother was called by death from them. They then went to Minnesota to live on a large farm but remained only a few months, returning to Farmington where they lived quite a while. The next move was to the Haney farm one half mile west of Bonaparte and here they made their home until the sudden death of the father in May, 1893/5?. The children then moved across the river to the Perkins farm and from this home deceased married on August 25, 1897 to Orville Sherman, at the Bentonsport M.E. parsonage, by Rev. A. E. Thornley.
They lived here and in this vicinity, with the exception of three years residence in Bentonsport the remaining of her life. To the was born one son, Alfred Henry, on Feb. 4, 1907, who, with her husband, two sisters, Olive Macklin and Mrs. Laura Shafer, and four brothers, Austin of Pasadena, Calif.; Ed, of Indiana; Dan and Floyd, of Bonaparte, survive.
Mrs. Sherman has been a severe sufferer for the past several years, and her Christian spirit was apparent at all times. When only 19 years of age she was left to take the place of mother to eight sisters and brothers. She did her duty well by them all.
Her fatal illness began two weeks ago and death came to her relief at ten a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 1911, she being aged 38 years, 8 months and 20 days.
Funeral services were held in the church at Anson conducted by Rev. Smith of the Bonaparte Baptist church, and the body was laid to rest near the father, mother, sister Mary D. and brother, Frank, in the beautiful little cemetery near her birth place.
