Charles P. McIntosh, was born March 5, 1853, on Vernon Prairie in Van Buren county, Iowa, and died at his home in Milton, Iowa, June 13, 1929, aged 76 years, 2 months and 8 days. He was married to Clara A. Wolf, March 10, 1878. To this union two children were born: Mrs. Ida Lewis, now of Mesa, Ariz., and James Leslie McIntosh, of Cantril, Iowa, both of whom were present during the last days of his life to assist the mother in taking care of him. Everything was done for him by his faithful companion to alleviate his suffering and make his last days as pleasant as possible. Besides the immediate family left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father, there are eleven grand children and three great grand children, one sister, Mrs. Ellen Keiser, of Ashland, Neb., and one brother, W.M. McIntosh, of Farmington, Iowa, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, for everybody who knew Charlie was his friend. Mr. Lewis and children were unable to be present at the funeral on account of being so far away. His nephew, D.B. McIntosh had made his home with his uncle and aunt for the past twenty-four years, and seemed as one of the family. On March 10, 1928, Mr. and Mrs. McIntosh celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He united with the M.E. church forty years ago but upon coming to Milton in 1900 he transferred his membership to the Christian church and has been a faithful worker ever since. He loved his home and his family and was never more happy than when at home with his loved ones. On Thursday morning at 8:15 o’clock he quietly passed away to go to his long last home where there will be no pain or sorrow. Thus closes the life of a good man. Funeral services were held June 14th in charge of Rev. J.W. Althiede. Interment in Sunnyside cemetery.
