Sylvester Corns.
Sylvester Corns was born in Hamilton county, Indiana, April 14, 1830, and departed this life Feb. 22, 1911, aged eighty years, ten months and eight days. He had been seriously ill several months and almost an invalid for years.
He enlisted in Co. F, 5th Indiana Volunteer Infantry in 1847 to serve during the war with Mexico and was honorably discharged from that service July 28, 1848, at Madison, Indiana.
A few years afterward he married Miss Emily Reeber and to this union four children were born, of whom but one survives, viz., Mrs. Ella Root of Big Springs, Neb. His wife died in 1871.
August 25, 1875, he and Miss Angeline Stice of Scotland county, Mo., were married and to this union seven children were born, viz., Mrs. Angie Meltner of New Hampton, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Rash of Lynn, Ind.; Walter of Evanston, Ill.; Mrs. May Finn, Clarance and Albert of Bonaparte; and Edna of Lacon, Ill.
He leaves to mourn their loss, the wife, eight children, 22 grand-children, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Friday afternoon with Rev. T.L. Smith in charge, assisted by Rev. B.J. Taylor. The remains were laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery, several members of the Elias M. Ware Post assisting in the burial services.
