PIONEER MOTHER DEPARTS
After a Long Illness, Death
Claims Mrs. Jacob Wolf. For the past several months the life principle of one of the best, old ladies of Bonaparte has been gradually decreasing, the anxiety of the relatives and friends culminating last Friday in her death. Mrs. Wolf was fine woman, loved and respected by large circle of relatives and friends, for her many good qualities. She was a plain, home-loving woman, and will be sadly missed by neighbors and friends.
[Catherine Mohler was born near Baltimore, Maryland, June 9th, 1821. She moved to Ohio when quite young, and was married there on December 18th, 1837, to Jacob Wolf, they remaining in Ohio fourteen years. Ten children blessed their union, five sons and five daughters, of whom one son and one daughter departed this life many years ago. In 1851 they came to Iowa, settling on Vernon Prairie, Van Buren county, upon a farm which the husband entered from the U. S. Government.
Their first abode here was a rude, log cabin upon the place known in the years since as the old home. In this they lived contently, struggling with that zeal necessary in the lives of pioneers in a new country until by hard labor and wise economy, they had earned a more imposing home, which still remains upon the old, home farm. In 1884 they retired from active, farm life, moving to Bonaparte, where the subject of this sketch passed the remainder of her days, falling into that natural sleep, called death, Friday afternoon, October 19, 1900.
Mother Wolf became a member of the Lutheran church in early childhood and after coming to Iowa united with the Presbyterian church, of which organization she remained a faithful member to the end of her days.
Her surviving sons and daughters all reside in this neighborhood, with the exception of one son, who lives at Ferndale, California. Twenty-two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive her.]
