JOHN T. ISRAEL.
John T. Israel, eldest son of J. D. and Juliet Israel, was born in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, June 30, 1857. Departed this life Oct. 24, 1907, aged 50 years, 3 months and 24 days.
He was converted and united with the Harrisburg Baptist church in 1876, and continued a faithful member of that organization until he answered his Master's call to a higher service. His was the religion that spoke, not so much in words as in the actions of his everyday life.
He was married March 7, 1886, to Miss Bess Young, who with the one son Kenneth survives him.
Mr. Israel was one of the most exemplar in his attendance at church and Sabbath school. He was not only at peace with his Maker but with all mankind as well. It is doubtful that he ever gave cause for breach of friendship.
Entrusted by his fellow citizens with positions of honor and responsibility he always proved faithful to the trust imposed. A genial companion, a thoughtful and considerate neighbor, loyal to every instinct of duty, he will be greatly missed in every relation of life.
Funeral services were conducted at the Harrisburg church on the 26th inst. by Rev. Jonathan Lee of Rome, a former pastor, assisted by the present pastor, Rev. Ericson. A very large concourse of relatives and sympathizing friends attended and followed the remains to the burial at the Sharon cemetery near LaCrew, Lee county.
Mr. Israel had been troubled with disease of the heart for a year or more being confined to his home for several weeks last spring. He was in much better health this summer and had been in Bonaparte just a few days previous to his death which came suddenly Thursday evening.
