Serelda Parrish
Mrs. Serelda Parrish died at her home here Friday afternoon about four o’clock. She was taken suddenly ill in the morning of that day and a physician called.
Some time during the afternoon she got our of bed and went out of doors, presumably to look after her chickens, and was unable to get back into the house. She called to her daughter, Ms. Geo. Spence, who lives in the adjoining property, and who came and assisted her to her bed, where she died in a few minutes.
Mrs. Parrish was born May 14, 1840, and died April 8, 1910, aged almost seventy years. Her maiden name was Serelda Mythens. In 1856 she was married to Samuel Dees and to them five children were born, one of whom died in infancy. The other four are Mrs. Sarah Layton of Oklahoma, Mrs. Carrie Spence of Bonaparte, Alfred Lees of Tacoma, Wash., and Joe Lees of Arizona.
After the death of her first husband, “Aunt Relda” was married to Ira Parrish. Most of her life was spent near Vincennes, Iowa. A few months ago she moved to Bonaparte where she had purchased property.
She early united with the Christian church, and later with the Baptist church of Union, Mo. Besides the family above mentioned there are six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A short funeral service was held at the late home here Monday morning conducted by Rev. Hansen, and the remains were taken to Vincennes for interment
