Four Out of Five,

If the Holmes family are inclined to be fatalists they certainly must now believe that Fate is giving them more than their portion of illness and death.

In the family there were, a few days ago, five living brothers, Jerry, Wesley, Loxley, John and Manning.

Wesley died at his home in Wichita, Kansas, Wednesday afternoon of last week after an illness of about two hours, having been stricken with paralysis. He leaves a wife and two children, daughters, one of whom is married.

Jerry Holmes of Seattle, Wash., was stricken with apoplexy a few months ago but is said to be slowly recovering

John Holmes of Bonaparte has for several months been very seriously ill with heart trouble and for several weeks it was thought he could not recover. He has recently been able to be dressed and get out to his meals part of the time but is yet very feeble.

Manning Holmes of Harrisburg township has been ill for several weeks and his physicians fear he may have appendicitis.

At last report the remaining brother, Dr. Loxley Holmes of Ottumwa was in usual health.

That certainly is a chapter of hard luck, ill fate, a bunch of trouble, or whatever may accord with your belief along those lines.
