DR. BAILEY
On June 3, 1809, or more than ninety-four years ago Gideon S. Bailey was born in Lawrence county, Indiana. Thursday evening, November 5, 1903, at his home in Vernon, Iowa, his soul took flight.
He has lived in Van Buren county since 1837 and throughout the years of the development and settlement of Iowa was one of her best and most influential citizens.
He represented Van Buren county in the First General Assembly of Territorial Government of Iowa in the M. E. Church of Burlington in 1838.
He was a member of the Territorial Council and served as United States Marshall of Iowa under the administration of James K. Polk.
He was also a member of the State Senate during the special session of 1861.
Funeral services were held Sunday and were largely attended.
