Daniel Collins was born in Caroline county, Maryland, February 3, 1807. He departed this life March 18th, 1891. He was married to Elizabeth Anderson, in the year 1835. He soon afterward moved to Indiana, and in the year 1845 moved to Iowa. In the year 1852 [or 1862?] he was called to mourn the loss of his companion, the result of this union being eight children. He was again married to Nancy Vickers, February 18?th, 1855?. The result of this union being five children.
He was the father of thirteen children, five of whom have preceded him to the home beyond. He leaves his companion, eight children and four great grand-children to mourn his loss.
He was converted more than sixty years ago, and united with the Methodist church, and was a humble follower of his Master. His last words were "Glory, I am going home." He would talk to his loved ones that had gone before, as though he saw them.
The funeral services took place at the Baptist church, March 19th, conducted by Rev. E. Y. Carl, who preached an earnest, sermon, and a choir sang appropriate pieces. After the friends took a last look the remains were conveyed to the cemetery. The pall bearers were J. W. Whiteley, S. Bennett, J. Eich, Wm. Nealey, W. E. Smith, D. Derr.
