Gone From Earth.

The announcement of the death of Mr. Josiah Kennedy which occurred at his late home near Big Mound, aroused the honest feelings of grief in the hearts of many friends.

He was born in Casey county, Kentucky, January 18, 1817, and departed this life at one p. m., Tuesday, July 28, 1891, aged 74 years, 6 months and 10 days. He came with his parents in 1828 to Scott county, Illinois, where he was married to Julia Scott in 1837. He then moved to Iowa and settled near Clay Grove, and removed from there in 1843 to Cedar Township, where he resided until the day of his death. His sickness was of only a few hours, being caused by heart failure.

Mr. Kennedy possessed all the noble qualities that go so far towards making a true friend, loving husband and affectionate father. He was considered an honorable man, liberal in charity and assisting in every good work. The deceased was a member of the Christian church for thirty-five years. He was the father of nine children, four of whom have preceded him to the better world, and five are left, two sons and three daughters, with his wife, to mourn the loss of a good husband and father, while many friends are saddened and mourn with them.

The funeral services were conducted at the residence at ten o'clock a. m., on Thursday, July 30, when the remains were taken to Clay Grove church when Rev. Hightshoe preached a beautiful sermon from 1st Peter, 1st chap. 24-25 verses. The very large concourse of people assembled testified to the respect in which the deceased was held. They then followed him to the grave and laid him beside his four children.

The pall bearers were Messrs. John Ware, Hugh Logan, L. Reader, Robt. Dinsmore, Wm. Hemming and Wm. Moran. The funeral was conducted by G. A. Demple in his usual satisfactory manner.
