Gone to Rest.

At the residence of G. Purbaugh, Esq., near Lincoln, Neb., on Wednesday evening, January 21st, 1891, occurred the death of Miss Kay D. Packer, after a brief but agonizing illness, the result of la grippe, an abcess [sic] on the brain. She was attended by the eminent Dr. Latta, of Lincoln and ministered to by faithful and tender friends, but of her relatives, only her sister, Mrs. McConnaughey reached her before the end came -- her brother, Mr. L. Packer arriving only in time to complete arrangements for bringing the beautiful form to the bereaved parents at the family home Salem.

She was a graduate from Whittier College and a teacher of rare ability and wondrous tact. Always ambitious and original, and with tireless energy and perseverance, she could always reach the dull and discouraged and lead all to do their best.

She was not able to finish her last day in school, but bad them sing "Secret Prayer," and "Angry Words Are Lightly Spoken," then said to them, whatever you do, oh do be good," and dismissed them until Monday, when she hoped to be well again.

On Christmas day she said of an old gentleman whom she had dearly loved, "I often think Uncle Bennie will be first to meet me in the "Beautiful Land." The thought of coming rest seemed ever present. The look of peace and rest -- happy, blessed look, that came when the tired spirit took its flight, seemed the fulfillment of her hope, so often expressed, that the spirit might go at once to its reward.

On Saturday after the brief service of comfort and *lmonition, the loved form was bourne to its resting place at Salem.

Of the family, only her sister, Mrs. J. H. Jacobs, of St. Francis, Kansas, was absent from the sad last rites, and mourns so far away this first break in the family circle. A beautiful, unselfish soul has gone beyond the earth shadows into the perfect day.
