At the residence of her son, near Willits Station, Van Buren county, Iowa, March 13, 1885,
Mrs. Sarah Willits, aged 79 years, 10 months, 2 days.

Mrs. Willits was born in North Carolina, May 11, 1805. Her parents emigrated to Wayne county, Indiana, in 1806. In that state she was married to Robert Willits in 1820. They emigrated to Iowa in the fall of 1842 and settled in Van Buren county. Mrs. willits survived her husband 15 years and 6 months. She was the mother of 10 children, seven of whom survive her. One of them resides in California. Six of her children with several of her grandchildren were present at the funeral. Mrs. Willits was always ready to contribute to the best purpose in a religious point of view with the noble mind and judgment that God blest her with. The duration of her long and useful life goes to show that she was one of our country's most esteemed and purest mothers. After her long and useful life on this earth she died easy and happy being virtually prepared for death, as she has often expressed her mind openly. The funeral took place on Monday, March 16. The services were held at Ward's school house in Vernon township, conducted by Rev. G. W. Barber, and the body was buried in the Thompson grave yard.
