Gone From Our Midst
CORA D. ATKINSON - Born at Lawn Ridge, Ill., March 27, 1864, a died April 27th, 1889, after a long and hard struggle with the pulmonary trouble, her age being 25 years, one month and 10 days.
She had been a resident of this place for more than 19 years. It will not be considered out of place to speak of some of her traits of character.
Cora was passionately fond of reading, and having gratified this taste to a wide extent, it made her an entertaining and instructive companion socially. Hers was the bearing of a lady, a calm and uniform temperament acquired by rigid self? culture, a deep seated and abiding sense of justice and rectitude, inborn. A sweet smile constantly played upon her countenance, planted there by nature's God. A faithful willing performance of duties and trust committed to her; these with many other traits of character and life made her loved and respected by all who knew her and made her life promise much of usefulness.
She had for years been a faithful attendant upon the means of grace and Sabbath school at the Presbyterian church, but always shrank from making a public profession of Christ. During her long illness, the writer has talked and prayed with her. She's has expressed herself thus, " My mind is at rest." "I feel at peace with God and all the world. but " And now she has passed away from us. All that physician's skill and faithful nursing could do, has been done but of no avail. We lovingly and trustingly commend her spirit to the God who gave it.
The funeral took place from her late home, April 28th at 2:00 p.m., in the presence of a large gathering of friends.
