Sudden Death of a Good Woman

The uncertainty of life was again proven last Tuesday morning when our citizens awoke to hear that a good woman, Mrs. Joseph Sanders, had died during the preceding night. Mrs. Sanders was on her way to the home of Mrs. Cynthia Meek, of whose seemingly serious illness she had just been appraised; and had gone no farther than Honey Creek bridge, when she complained of feeling ill. She immediately sank into unconsciousness, was taken to her home, and shortly expired.

Mrs. Sanders was an excellent character, well known, and admired by all who knew her. she was one of those kind-hearted ladies who was ever willing to lend kindly aid to anyone in sickness or distress. Our entire community mourns the loss of this good neighbor and friend.

[Died, at her home in Bonaparte, Iowa, June 18, 1900, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Sanders, aged 60 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Elizabeth Ann Meek, daughter of Robert and Mary Ann Meek, was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, July 6, 1839. She grew to womanhood in this place and was married to Joseph Sanders, April 8, 1854. To this union, 8 children were born, 5 sons and 3 daughters, one daughter and two sons having departed this life. She has lived in this vicinity all her life, and has gathered about her many friends, who with her companion, three sons, two daughters, one sister and five brothers, who lament her sudden departure.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, having united with it on Feb. 7, 1897, and remained a faithful Christian.]

The funeral will occur at her late home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. E. J. Smith conducting the services.

The Royal Neighbors, of which order she was a highly-honored member, will attend the funeral in a body, six of them, Mesdames Jesse Meredith, Frank Martin, Henry Humphryes, Sally Peterie, J. H. Cresap and Steve Cox having been chosen to act as honorary pall-bearers.
