Samuel M. Bennett was born April 9, 1819, near Camden, Prebble [sic] County, Ohio, and departed this life May 16, 1898, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 7 days. On August 20th, 1845, he was married to Sarah A. Whitson. Five children blessed this union. They came to Iowa and settled near Vernon in 1851. The wife and mother died June 21, 1876, two of their children having preceded her. Four brothers, three sisters, three children, Mrs. T. P. Henry, Mrs. Ella Hart and Mr. C. N. Bennett, and two grandchildren, Lemuel Henry and May Hart, are his surviving relatives.
At his death, and for a number of years, deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church of Bonaparte. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. H. Scofield, and his earthly tabernacle was laid to rest in the cemetery at Vernon, beside those of his wife and daughter.
