Mrs. Amanda Proper died Jan. 14, 1907, in a hospital in Chicago where she had been for nearly five weeks, under special treatment for tuberculosis. She was born in Illinois Nov. 14, 1846 and when a small child came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Dodds, to Iowa, which has been her home most of the time for fifty years. Her age was sixty years, one month and twenty days. She was converted when nineteen years of age and joined the Harrisburg church early in 1865, at or about the time of its organization, one mile from her father's home, seven miles from Bonaparte, Iowa. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Baptist church, Des Moines, Iowa. She was married to D. D. Proper. She leaves surviving, her husband, one son, four daughters, three grandsons, four brothers and two sisters. Her body was brought to Des Moines and on Thursday a short service of reading scripture and prayer was conducted by her pastor, Dr. Hanson. The body was then taken into the Harrisburg church, where the funeral service was held Saturday forenoon, Jan. 19, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. Lee, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. Ericson. She was interred in the old family burial place near the church. There were present at the funeral besides her brother John Dodds and family of the immediate neighborhood, her husband, son Edwin S. of Ames, Iowa, her daughters Ida S. of New Your City, Edith D. of Des Moines, her sister Mrs. Nora Sayers and niece Mrs. Ida Thompson of LaBelle, Mo.; her brothers W. H. Dodds, of Seguin, Kansas, J. A. Dodds of Kansas City,; C. W. Dodds and wife and son Earl, of Keosauqua; L.W. Dodds and wife, of Utica; W. V. Dodds and wife, of Pierceville, her sister-in-law, Mrs. D. J. Dodds, of Mt. Pleasant; and Henry L. Easling of Bonaparte. The oldest daughter, Mrs. Jas. Hebard of New York City, and the third daughter, Mrs. W. A. Saum of Shreveport, Louisiana, were unable to be present. There were a number of beautiful floral pieces of various kinds sent by relatives at Des Moines and other places.
