THOMAS C. McCARTY

The funeral for Thomas C. McCarty, 68, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27 in the Keosauqua United Methodist Church with the Rev. James M. Ford officiating. Burial was in Forbes Cemetery.

Mr. McCarty, who was employed at the Brass Rail in Keosauqua, was found dead in his home Friday morning, Nov. 24. Death occurred late Thursday afternoon, according to Dr. Kiyoshi Furumoto, Van Buren Co. medical examiner.

He was born Feb. 23, 1904 at Mt. Zion to John and Rhoda Poole McCarty. He married Madeline Slutz in Ottumwa on Sept. 30, 1922 and spent most of his life in the Mt. Zion area, moving to Keosauqua six years ago. Mrs. McCarty died Dec. 5, 1957.

He is survived by 11 children, Robert and James of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Lovenia Duncan, Mrs. Verne Coleman and Richard of Bonaparte, Arthur of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Audrey Blue of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Mrs. Carolyn Gaskell of Keosauqua, Leslie of Douds, Gary who is with the U.S. Army at Ft. Carson, Colo., Donald of Oskaloosa and by several brothers and sisters.

Catcott Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
