On Thursday evening, April 13, between 9 and 10 o'clock, Andrew J. Ewing died of consumption, aged 24 years. He is the sixth one of the family that has died with that dread disease. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church, and the discourse was delivered by Rev. Oscar Clute of the Unitarian church of Keokuk. This was Mr. Clute's first visit to Bonaparte, but many of our people hope it may not be his last. He gave us a splendid sermon. He avowed his position at the outset of his discourse, and then went on and stated the principal tenets of his belief, and presented some of the arguments in their support. He has the rare faculty of being eloquent and argumentative at the same time. His style is clear, his language chaste, and his discourse is conducted on an elevated moral plain, surrounded by an atmosphere of purity, love and reverence. The services as a whole were solemn, impressive, beautiful, and we do not understand how any man could go out into the world after listening to them without being inspired with greater reverence for his Creator and a broader charity, a kindlier sympathy, and a greater love for mankind. The deceased had always lived in this community and had many friends. The church was filled it its utmost capacity, as a mark of respect for the dead and of sympathy for the family of the deceased.
