Edith H. McFarland

Edith H. McFarland, 95, died Monday, March 2, 1992 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center. She was a former Farmington area resident.

She was born June 13, 1896 in Lee County, Iowa to John L. and Cora Belle Saltsgaver Johnson. She married Robert L. Deere May 4, 1916 in Hannibal, Missouri. She later married Henry G. McFarland August 17, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois. He died June 3, 1961.

Mrs. McFarland was a member of the Moline Gospel Temple and provided transportation to the church for many people.

Survivors include 2 sons Robert and Gene of Bettendorf, five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and nephews, Ardath Deere, Farmington, and Forrest Deere, Fort Madison.

She was preceded in death by a son, John F. Deere, October 3, 1985; a sister, Garnet Deere and Ila Johnson; and brothers, Cecil Johnson and Glenn Johnson.

Services were held Thursday, March 5 at Moline Gospel Temple with Dr. Charles Hollis officiating.

Burial was in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the church.

McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf was in charge of arrangements.
