Dewey Heminger

Dewey G. Heminger, 67, of Wood River, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 1992 at First Presbyterian Church in Wood River, the Rev. Walter Macintyre officiating. Burial was in Wood River Cemetery.

Heminger was born May 14, 1925, to Rex and Neta (Keck) Heminger at Vernon, Iowa. He was educated in Bonaparte, Iowa.

In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1946.

On Jan. 22, 1947, Heminger married Margaret Baily at Bonaparte. They moved to Grand Island in 1952 and then to Alda in 1958.

He opened a garage in Alda in 1962 and later moved that business to Wood River in 1965. The Hemingers moved to Wood River in 1966 .

In 1969, he started and operated Heminger Building Sales until semi-retiring in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Wood River; son Dewey R. and daughter Neta Luhn, both of Wood River; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother Doyle, Dannebrog; and sisters, Mary Waters, Wood River, and Jean Overstreet, Stockport, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two grandsons.

Memorials are planned to Wood River Rescue Unit or Wood River Foundation.
