Cecil E. Grimes
Cecil E. Grimes, son of James W. and Myrtle Campbell Grimes, was born May 31, 1903 near Libertyville, Iowa, and died in Junction City, Kansas on September 17, 1992 at the age of 89.
He graduated from Libertyville High School, and was a member of the United Methodist Church. He moved to Keosauqua as a young man and was married to Verda Hervey in 1933. They had four children. He later married Edith Barber McCullough in Longview, Washington. To this union was born one daughter.
He served his country in the Navy during World War II, and was honorably discharged in August 1945. He also served in the Secret Service and as a guard at the Leavenworth Prison and later for Wackenhut Corp. on a missile base being built at McPherson, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clive and Wm. Verle, and a sister Intha May and stepson, Duane McCollough.
Survivors include his wife Edith, daughter Donna Cole of Gallatin, Mo., sons Charles of Topeka, Kansas, Raymond and wife Erlene of Sioux Falls, S.D., John and wife Cyrissa of Pueblo, Colorado, daughter Edith Elaine Mapp of McPherson, step-son, Gallan McCollough and wife of Anthony, Kansas, sixteen grandchildren, two sisters, Anna Grimes Wiley and Cloris Grimes Wiley, both of Cantril.
Funeral services were held in McPherson Sept. 23 at Ball & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Lowry officiating. Burial was in McPherson Cemetery with military rites, conducted by the VFW Post No. 2715.
