Helen B. Gove, daughter of William H. and Ida Moore Saunderson, was born July 31, 1902 near Mt. Zion and died the morning of Friday, June 29, 1990 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua at the age of 87.
She married Bert M. Chafer February 10, 1923. He died March 10, 1949. On October 17, 1958 she married Lowell Gove, who died May 20, 1972.
Helen worked as a laboratory and x-ray technician at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital for 18 years. She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Lynds Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and Beer-Barker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Chafer Elliott and her husband, Richard of Memphis, Tenn., a son, Robert M. Chafer and his wife, Ruth of Atlanta, Ga., two step daughters Kathryn Gove McCord and her husband, James of Bismarck, Mo. and Helen Gove Blackburn and her husband, Robert of Keosauqua, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were three sisters, Mabel Saunderson DeHart and Edith and Bertha Saunderson, two brothers, Henry and Mont Saunderson, a grandson, Randy Elliott and a great granddaughter, Lori Elliott.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 2, 1990 at 3 p.m. in the Keosauqua United Methodist Church with Rev. Chrisa Ferguson officiating. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua. Memorials were established for her church and the Iowa Lions Sight Saving Program. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
