Robert Umphrey

Robert L. Umphrey, 91, of Birmingham died at 2:20 a.m. December 22, 1990, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.

He was born Sept. 17, 1899, south of Birmingham to L.S. "Bud" and Lorenia Belle Jameson Umphrey. He married Helen May Randall on Sept. 17, 1924 in Keosauqua. She died August 14, 1989.

He farmed his entire life and lived on the family farm where he was reared for over 70 years until retiring in 1971, when he moved to Birmingham.

He is survived by three daughters; Dorothy Tisdale of Keosauqua, Ruth Dodds of Fairfield and Janet Haganman of Stockport; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons; a brother, Sherman Umphrey and two sisters, Lorenia Haney and Weltha Countryman. The service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

A memorial may be made to Birmingham Fire Department.
