Ina Carruthers Fry
Ina Carruthers Fry, daughter of Sam and Belle Cross Harness, was born October 29, 1905 in Scotland County, Missouri and died Saturday evening, April 16, 1988 in LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville, Illinois, at the age of 82.
She was reared in Van Buen County, Iowa and December 24, 1921 married Fred Carruthers. They lived in Mount Sterling and Keosauqua. Mr. Carruthers died in 1965.
On October 19, 1970 she married Arthur Fry and they lived in Monmouth, Illinois. Mr. Fry died in 1986. A son, Jack Carruthers, two brothers, Leonard and Lawrence Harness, and three sisters, Lula Wells, Ethel Peterie, and Myrtle Obley, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Howard Carruthers, Tucson, Arizona, Donald Carruthers, Keosauqua, and James Carruthers, Brighton; five daughters, Arlene Shannan and Evelyn McCracken, Keosauqua, Dorothy Russell, Skellytown, Texas, Frances Koller, Monmouth, Illinois and Freda Pundt, Fort Madison. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; four stepdaughters, Clara Singleton, Margaret Howell, Genevieve Taylor and Joyce Stripe; a stepson, Wilber "Bud" Fry; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Guy Harness, Prescott, Arizona; a sister, Clara Lerchie, Moulton.
Mrs. Fry had worked at the Iowa Army Ordnance Plant at Burlington. She was a member of First Christian Church, Monmouth.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 20, 1988 at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Reverend Terry Ellis officiating. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua. Memorials were established for First Christian Church, Monmouth, and LeMoine Christian Nursing Home.
