Wayne LeRoy Barton

Wayne LeRoy Barton, 43, Route 2, Danville, died at 4:53 a.m. Thursday at Burlington Medical Center, after an extended illness.

Born Feb. 14, 1944, at Salem, he was the son of Walter and Fern Brown Barton. He married Mary Woodall on Feb. 28, 1964, at Salem.

Before his death, Barton became the object of local concern about the relationship between cancer and Agent Orange. Barton's physician was disturbed by the aggressive nature of his illness and attributed it to Barton's exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War.

Services for Mr. Barton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elliott Chapel, New London, Rev. Linnford Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, southeast of New London.
