Samuel Lloyd “Sam” Philp, 50, of Farmington, Iowa, passed away at 2:51 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was born on July 19, 1972, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Neil L. Philp, Sr. and Jan (Lamborn) Loges. On October 23, 2009, he married Karen Horter in Keosauqua, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife: Karen; two sons: Hunter and Logan; mother: Jan (Todd) Loges of Farmington; three siblings: Neil (Michelle) Philp, Jr. of Farmington, Rena (Malvika) Philp of Farmington and Cassie (Tanner) Billingsley of Mount Sterling; father and mother-in-law: Charles and LuJean Horter of Kahoka, Missouri; sister-in-law: Sara (Chris) Hartsock of Kahoka, Missouri; nieces and nephews: Kalyn, Cooper, Harper, Lane, Allison and Emily. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father: Neil; grandparents: Sam and Esther Lamborn, Lloyd and Margaret Philp.

Sam was 1990 graduate of Harmony High School. He also attended Indian Hills Community College. He was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church. Sam worked for Ceco Building Systems for seventeen years until it closed and other various jobs until his health failed. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, woodworking, cooking, gardening and collecting guns and knives. Most of all, Sam loved his family, his sons were his world.

His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.
