LOREN ISAAC PEEL

Loren Isaac Peel, son of P.O. and Harriett Pruden Peel, was born February 13, 1900 near Wever in Lee County, Iowa and departed this life early the morning of Wednesday, May 21, 1986 in his home at Cantril at the age of 86. He was the oldest of seven children.

He united with the Green Bay Church of Christ and was baptized in the Skunk River, August 19, 1914 moving his membership to the Cantril Christian Church in 1954. He was a Mason and a former member of the Eastern Star. Loren was a charter member of the first Lions Club in Van Buren County and a charter member and past president of the Southeast Iowa Board of Realtors, was a 4-H leader for six years and was a past president of the Keosauqua Rotary Club.

He was a realtor for 34 years, had been Van Buren County Auditor, and served in the Iowa House of Representatives from Van Buren County in the 46th General Assembly.

In June, 1933, Loren married Maire Tomlinson at Mt. Pleasant. She passed away in August, 1963. He later married Arta Vehslage.

Surviving are his wife, Arta; a sister, Mabel Hershey of Pulaski; a brother, Leo of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 23, 1986 at 11 a.m. in the Cantril Christian Church with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Interment was in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established.
