FAIRFIELD - Glenn E. Shafer, 93, of Fairfield died at 11:20 p.m. April 1, 1986, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.

He was born Dec. 4, 1892, in Keokuk County to Frank and Nancy Ramsey Shafer. He married Florence Clapp on June 12, 1923, in Fairfield. He was a lifetime resident of Jefferson County and had been a farmer and mechanic. He served as an Iowa State Guard during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the church's orchestra and choir, Farm Burea(sp), past member of the Rifle Club, and Unkrich Band, that played on the Chautauqua Tour.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Keith of Birmingham and Floyd of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Clair Odell and Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Family visitation is 7-8 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church building Fund.
