Donald Wilson

Donald J. Wilson, 64, of Kahoka, Mo., died Jan. 5, 1986 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born June 2, 1921, at Athens, Mo., the son of I.J. and Mary Alice Smith Wilson. He married Jeanne Stodgell on Feb. 14, 1945, at the Military Base Chapel at Tonopah, Nev.

He graduated from Revere High School in 1937 and Burlington Junior College. He attended Parsons College at Fairfield. In 1943, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was an airplane mechanic. While in the service he attended the Milwaukee State Teachers College.

In 1946, he returned to Clark County and continued his education at Kirksville State Teachers College. he then taught school at Athens and Revere and farmed near Athens with his father until his retirement in 1975. He moved to Kahoka in 1981.

He was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church and was active in various organizations including Hiram Lodge 362, A.F & A.M.; Kahoka Chapter 126 Royal Arch (masons); Herman Blum Post 192 of the American Legion; Kahoka Chapter 40 O.E.S. He was a charter member of the Athens Park Development Association, served on the AFC Township Board and various other conservation related boards.

Survivors include his wife; son Harold J. of Farmington; sister Mrs. Evelyn Montgomery of Freeport, Ill; and two grandchildren.

The service was held at 11 a.m. Jan. 9, at the Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, Mo. The Rev. James Brice officiated. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Keokuk with military rites by the Herman Blum Post 192.

Visitation and a Masonic service was held Wednesday night.

Memorials may be made to the Athens United Methodist Church and Herman Blum Post 192 of the American Legion.
