Orley Brown

Orley E. Brown, 89, of Alliance, Ohio, died March 2, 1986, at his home.

He was born May 23, 1896, in Kirkville and later lived in Milton. He served as a private first class in France during World War II. He attended Iowa State University and the University of Chicago. He was professor of mathematics at Northwestern University 1923-29 and at Case-Western University, Cleveland, Ohio, from 1930-56. He was a member of Sigma Xi and Gamma Alpha honorary fraternities and First Immanuel United Church of Christ in Alliance.

He is survived by his wife, Zora; a daughter, Joan F. Smith of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Russell A. of Lyndhurst, Ohio; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard A. of Bloomington, Ill.

A private memorial service will be held this spring.

Sharer-Sterling funeral Home of Alliance, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stark County or the Alliance Cancer Society.
