LENORA STEEPLES

Lenora Steeples, daughter of Stephen A. and Ada Toops, was born June 14, 1896 near Chambersburg, in Clark County, Mo., and passed away at the Davis County hospital in Bloomfield on Nov. 24, 1960 after a lingering illness at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 10 days.

The early years of her life were spent at Chambersburg where she educated in the schools of Clark county, Missouri.

In October, 1912, she was united in marriage to Roy Teeters. To this union was born one daughter, Winifred. On July 4, 1925, she was married to Earnest Steeples at Kahoka, Missouri.

Her entire life was spent in Clark county, Missouri and in Van Buren and Davis counties in Iowa, where she cared for those in her own home. For the past fifteen years, she has tenderly ministered to the needs of others as a nurses aid.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Matthew Toops; two half sisters, Mrs. Retta Horter and Mrs. Jane Brewster.

Surviving are her husband, Earnest; her daughter and son-in-law, Winifred and William Lorton of Des Moines, Iowa; one granddaughter, Mrs. Shirley Gandy of Altoona, Iowa; one grandson, Gary Lorton of Ottumwa; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Elvin Toops; a sister, Mrs. Mae Boone; a half-brother, Frenchie Howell; a half-sister, Mrs. Lottie Irvin, all of Kahoka, Missouri; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Bethlehem Baptist church near Kahoka, Missouri on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Harold Harryman of Milton officiating. Interment was in the cemetery there.
