Lawrence F. Murphy, 91, of Keosauqua [IA] died at 1:55 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

Born May 15, 1909 in Van Buren County, he was the son of Morris and Ethel Kisling Murphy. On May 16, 1934, he married Velda McCracken in Keosauqua. She died Nov. 29, 1992.

Mr. Murphy was a mechanic at Rigsby Chevrolet in Keosauqua from 1937 until 1952. He then operated Murphy Repair until his retirement in 1971.

He was a 1928 graduate of Keosauqua High School and a member of Riverview Club. He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include one daughter, Laura Hild of Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; eight nieces; and six nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Murphy will be at 1:30 Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home, with Lothar Lengtat officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua. A memorial has been established for the Keosauqua Senior Center.
