CORA R. HORN

Cora R. Horn, daughter of John and Mary Ann Sawvel Channell, was born January 26, 1887 near Douds and departed this life the evening of Friday, August 2, 1985 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua at the age of 98.

She lived her life in the Douds community until entering the care center in 1980.

On January 1, 1905 she married Thomas Gilmore Horn. He died in 1958. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Mary Margaret, a son, Donald, two brothers Sam and Bert Channell, and a sister, Lena Fallis.

Surviving are three sons, Harold, St. Petersburg, Florida, Clair, St. Louis, Missouri and Thomas, Winterset; two daughters, Florence Reneker, Birmingham and Nellie Finney, Douds. Also are 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren.

She was a Lutheran and a member of the United Methodist Women.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 4, 1985 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with Rev. Walter Shuka and Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Douds. A memorial was established for the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.
