Arthur Swanson

Arthur B. Swanson, 84, of 1201 Plum died Friday, May 3, 1985, at his home.

He was born Jan. 2, 1901, at Ottumwa to Augustus and Nellie Pearson Swanson. A resident of Ottumwa all his life, he was foreman of the Electrical Department at John Morrell & Co., retiring in 1966. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and B.P.O.E. Elks 347. He married Mary Ruth Senger on June 6, 1928. She died April 25, 1983.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Senne of Ankeny and Sandra Wendell of Rockford, Ill.; seven granddaughters; four sisters, Mabel Swanson of Ottumwa, Evelyn Matthews of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Harriet Holmes and Verda McGuire of San Diego; and two brothers, Clarence Swanson of Pomona, Calif., and Emil Swanson of Selma, Iowa.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Dr. Ralph Andersen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Edmund, Gilbert Baker, James Foxx, Edwin Kent, Dennis Freeman and Tim Schuab.

The casket will remain at Reece Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Tuesday, when it will be taken to the church and closed at the beginning of the service.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. today.

A memorial has been established to First Lutheran Church.
