James E. Gaskell

James E. Gaskell, son of Charles E. and Margaret Tieman Gaskell, was born Oct. 23, 1935 at Burlington and died the morning of Saturday, April 27, 1985 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 49.

He grew up in the Keosauqua area, graduated form Keosauqua High School and served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1960.

On April 18, 1964 he married Carolyn McCarty Barrow. They have made their home in Pittsburg.

Remaining are his wife, three daughters, Debbie Gilchrist, Milton; and Joanna and April at home; two sons, Roy Barrow of Cantril and Timothy at home; two sons, Roy Barrow of Cantril and Timothy at home. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Justin Gilchrist and Heath and Abbe Barrow, three sisters, Barbara Haynes, Torrington, Wyo.; June McIntosh, Daharan, Saudi Arabia; and Betty Bumgart, Medford, Minnesota; two brothers, Charles of Fairfield and Robert of Mt. Zion, other relatives and friends. His parents preceded him in death.

Jim worked in the Maintenance Department of Iowa Malleable Iron Co., Fairfield.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 30, 1985 at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Pittsburg Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Van Buren County Ambulance or the Pittsburg Cemetery.
