HAROLD O. DOVENSPIKE

Mr. Harold O. Dovenspike, 73, of rural Mt. Pleasant died in a car accident on Thursday, October 18, 1984 near Geneseo, Illinois.

He was born on August 31, 1911 at Libertyville, Iowa to Fred O. and Minnie E. Giberson Dovenspike. On September 12, 1940, he married Marjorie E. Kirk at Mt. Pleasant. She survives.

Mr. Dovenspike had farmed and was a former officer and Police Chief for Mt. Pleasant. He had served in the United States Army during World War II and the Koren conflict. He retired after 12 years at the Iowa Ammunition Plant at Burlington. He was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church of Mt. Pleasant, the VFW Post 2561, and Moose Lodge of Mt. Pleasant.

He is survived by his wife of Mt. Pleasant; one son, H. Red of New London; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Carolyn) O'Conner of Burlington, Mrs. Jeffrey (Marilyn) Munford of Farmington, Mrs. Jackie (Robin) Brown of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; two half brothers, Dean Dovenspike and Melvin Lee, both of Mt. Pleasant; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Harry (Edna) Roberts of Pleasant Plain, Iowa and Irma Manning of Washington, Iowa. His parents, one son, Rickey, and two half brothers, Art and Robert Lee, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22, 1984 at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Dr. Louis a. Haselmayer of St. Michel's(err) Church officiated. The Veteran's of Foreign War Post 2561 and the American Legion Post 58 provided military rites at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his name for the Henry County Heart Fund.

MT. PLEASANT - Harold O. Dovenspike, 73, of Mt. Pleasant Rt. 4, died Thursday evening, Oct. 18, in a traffic accident on I-80 near Geneseo, Ill.

He was born Aug., 31, 1911, at Libertyville, to Fred O. and Minnie Giberson Dovenspike. He married Marjorie Kirk Sept. 12, 1940, at Mt. Pleasant.

He farmed near Mt. Pleasant, was a former officer and police chief for the city of Mt. Pleasant, was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea, and had retired from the Army Ammunition Plant at Middletown. He was a member of St. Michael Episcopal Church, VFW, and the Moose

Dovenspike, Pea Ridge, Ark.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; two half brothers, Dean Dovenspike and Melvin Lee, both of Mt. Pleasant; two half sisters, Edna Roberts, Pleasant Plain, and Irma Manning, Washington.
