OBITUARIES

MRS. MARTHA A. RUARK

Died at her home four miles west of Farmington, Dec. 29, 1902, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 15 days, Mrs. Ruark, whose maiden name was Mary Ann Crown. She was born in Zanesville, Muskingum county, Ohio, August 14, 1828. She came with her parents to Farmington at the age of 14. In 1849 she was married to Timothy Ruark. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Christie A. Krenmyre, Mrs. Lavina E. Lowery, Seth W. Ruark and Mrs. Mary H. Bowles. The husband of the deceased took his departure for the better world Nov. 16, 1855. Their eldest daughter, Christie, followed her father on December 21, 1880. She leaves to mourn her loss 3 children, 2 sisters, 5 brothers, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, besides a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. She was taken sick with lung fever Dec. 22 and was sick only eight days when she was called to join her husband and daughter, who preceded her to the better world. She realized her condition and bid farewell to her children, who were gathered around her bedside. She had made peace with her God and was ready to go. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Dec. 31, 1902, conducted by Revs. G. C. Goodenough and Taylor of Farmington. The remains were laid to rest in the old cemetery east of town:

Dear mother you have no need of our prayers,
Thou hast gone where the summer is bright,
Thou hast passed through the valley of shadow,
To the beautiful city of light.

We are kneeling alone with our sorrow,
Alone on this sorrowful shore.
We weep when we think your footsteps
Will never come back any more.

Yes, Dear Mother, from us you have gone,
Your voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our homes
Which never can be filled.
