HATTIE E. LEAVITT

Hattie E. Leavitt, daughter of Joseph and Sarah Elizabeth Moore Wiley, was born June 24, 1890 near Winchester in Van Buren County and departed this life early Tuesday, May 11, 1982, at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri at the age of 91.

On February 18, 194, she married Charles Lynford Leavitt at her parents' home Mount Zion. Mr. Leavitt preceded her in death in 1974. Six brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, Myrl, of Washington and two daughters, Maurine Moore of Birmingham and Mary Louise Whitcanack of Cantril; four grandchildren, Richard and David Leavitt, Kenneth Moore and Marilyn Tabb, four great grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Schwartz of Oskaloosa and Hazel Williams of Fairfield; other relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Leavitt operated the Mount Zion Store for many years and she served as postmistress from 1936 until 1966. She was a long-time member of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and its ladies society.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 13, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, with Rev. John Nolin pastors, officiating. Interment was in Forbes Cemetery. Pedrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial was established for her church.
