JAMES V. SNELLING

James V. Snelling, son of George and Elva Jones Snelling, was born February 16, 1891 in Lick Creek Township, Van Buren County and departed this life Wednesday, March 17, 1982 at his home in Douds at the age of 91.

On January 27, 1915, he married Elizabeth Cudworth at Eldon. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Dorothy Marie Acton of Ottumwa, eight grandsons, eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Elmer of Ottumwa, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Guy, a daughter, Marjorie Ritz, a great grandson, Wayne Ritz, three brothers, George, Ben and Ed and a sister, Hannah.

The Snellings farmed between Douds and Selma for many years, retired to Eldon in 1956 and moved to Douds in 1979. Jim was a 50year Mason in Celestial Lodge No. 413 at Douds, and had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, and Woodmen orders.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 19, 1982 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with Rev. Earl Menning of the Eldon Christian Church officiating. Interment with Masonic rites was in Leando Cemetery.
