DONALD E. MORRIS

Donald E. Morris, 58, of Bonaparte, died at 3:48 a.m., Sunday, January 24, at Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, following a lengthy illness.

He was born December 17, 1923, in Scotland county, Missouri. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Sargeant Osweiler Post American Legion of Bonaparte and the Railway Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He was a longtime employee of the Rock Island Railroad.

On September 18, 1948, he married Helen Hackard at Keosauqua. She preceded him in death in 1977. On July 28, 1978, at Kahoka, Missouri, he married Edna Cummings, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Stephen of Keosauqua; a daughter, Donna Oilar of Kahoka; two step-sons, Melvin Morris of West Liberty and Glenn Morris of Shellsberg; a brother, Darrell Morris of Keosauqua; a sister, Avis Bohnenkamp of Fort Madison; three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.

His parents were Melvin and Katherine Devor Morris.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, at the Center Chapel United Methodist church, southeast of Keosauqua, with The Rev. Louise Knupp officiating. Burial with military rites was in Harness Cemetery, Mt. Sterling.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be at the Pedrick Funeral Home.
