HOLLIS L. COCHRAN

Hollis Leslie Cochran, son of Glen and Gussie Burns Cochran, was born January 21, 1920 near Memphis, Missouri, and departed this life Thursday, May 14, 1981, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 61.

At an early age he moved with his family to the Mt. Sterling community where he lived most of his life. He attended Van Buren County Schools, and served three and a half years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and was a member of Sargeant-Osweiler Post No. 563, American Legion at Bonaparte.

He farmed and had been employed the past seven years by the Mt. Sterling Grain Co.

Remaining to cherish his memory are two sisters, Sylvia Cochran with whom he made his home, and Dorothy McDavid of Bonaparte; two brothers, Robert and John Cochran, both of Mt. Sterling; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; thirty-eight nieces and nephews, and many friends.

His parents, a sister, Helen Watkins; four nephew and a niece preceded him in death.

Hollis will be remembered as a loving brother and uncle and a loyal friend.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 16, 1981, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church, with Rev. Edward Kail officiating. Mrs. Harold Jamison was the soloist, accompanied by Mr. Monte Humble. Pallbearers were Max Madden, Russell Gordy, Ted Daugherty, David Heiser, Robert Heald, and Albert Todd. Interment was in Harness Cemetry at Mt. Sterling. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
