MAGGIE HUISMAN

Maggie Huisman, daughter of Aaron and Cornelia DeVos Leydens, was born April 9, 1892, in the Netherlands, and departed this life Friday, August 14, 1981 at Ottumwa Hospital in Ottumwa, Iowa, at the age of 89.

On February 18, 1913, she married Cornelius (Neal) Huisman, who preceded her in death in 1950. They lived in Prairie City and Birmingham communities. She later lived with her daugthers and at the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were four brothers and two sisters.

Remaining to cherish her memory are a son, Aaron (Dutch) Huisman of Eldon; two daughters, Marie Laughlin of Douds, and Cora Gates of Birmingham; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Susie Van Der Wall of Birmingham; other relatives and friends.

She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, a good neighbor and friend.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 17, 1981, at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Dr. Chris Daniel officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham. Memorials were established for the Good Samaritan Center and the Cancer Fund.
